Does Elton John reflect the overall state of British uality?

He started out seeming to like women, then had a fling or two with men, ran from it and married a woman in denial, did some "flinging" again, and in the end came out and admitted the truth and of course destroyed his career. It's the same thing again and again, with George Micheal as another example. Is that just the way it is across the pond? Rupert Everett, Simon Amstell, Boy George, et. al.
