Has everyone forgotten McCain's tie-in with the Savings and Loan scandal?

I know there's a lot of bashing on both sides, but this guy was tied into the federal Savings and Loan scandal of the 80's! Who remembers this and could provide further details? The guy seems earnest and straightforward enough, but with something like this looming over him, how can people completely trust him?
